Epic Fail!!!!
So I disconnected my cable approximately two months ago and
have been watching the tube for just about the same amount of time. Who knew
that there was so much to watch on Hulu and Netflix? Not to mention that I NEVER have to watch a re-run.
Every episode is new to me! My
television watching has gone into overdrive. Who would've thunk it?
My conclusion: It was never the cable that was distracting
me. It is me. I am discovering that that I get easily bored with my own
company. I avoid sitting in silence. I can read for only short stints of time and
become sleepy because I am so accustomed to mindless television watching and
mental stimulation that I don’t really want to work for it myself. I even wash
dishes with YouTube videos playing on my cell phone. It’s pretty bad. I actually think that I have killed quite a few
brain cells by watching so much television. I am working on regenerating them. I have been turning the television off and only
allowing myself to watch 3-4 episodes a day. I know that sounds like a lot, but
we need to keep in mind that I could watch an entire season over the course of
one weekend. Every little bit counts. Instead of watching television, I have
been reading more. To maintain transparency, I have been on my phone a lot. I
know. I have a problem. I’m working on it. Baby steps J.
While I haven’t weaned myself from the TV completely,
getting rid of cable has not been a complete fail. Only paying for internet
service has saved me about $80 per month.
